A New Character

Here’s one of the many characters Scott and I are fleshing out- Ace’s cantankerous, but loveable mentor. I find that the more I work a character design to try and refine it, the more I tend to lose *something* that was captured in that first visceral stab (rough sketch). So I’m leaving this guy alone. he’s perfect and I can’t wait to bring him to life!

How about some name suggestions?

It’s Uncle Roger! Really, spitting image.

I think it’s the mustache, but he looks like Ken to me 😀

      I wouldn’t be surprised. 😉

Mentors are awesome! He needs some really cantankerous name though. How about Cyril ? It comes from the the Greek word for “Lordly, Masterful”. I like the name Claymore as well. It described a Scottish two-handed sword but still sounds like an old fogey.

Then have Ace call him “Gramps” all the time and watch the smoke come out of the master’s ears. 😉

    Lance? Sounds suitably plumber-like.

Pro-tip, there’s no such thing as a “plumber” in Danish. Here most things like that are folded together, in this case into VVS “water, heating, and sanitation”.

I keep thinking you should name him Doc Brown, but maybe that’s a bit too vulgar 😉

I don’t know, Brown is apparently as common as Jones as a last name 😉

Dr Claymore Brown sounds pretty good actually….

      Along those lines

Master Plumber Irving C. Browngold inventor of the waterless flush. Affectionately known as Irv, but often referred to as I. C. Browngold.

Just wanted to add you need a three sea shells reference somewhere in the game.

That guy looks like my old professor Hugh Dunnit. HD, as we all called him in med school (Tijuana Tech) taught me everything I know about brain surgery. Boy, ol’ HD sure gets around. . . Haven’t seen him in years.

Much as I like the sketch, Mark, I do think he probably needs some color for the game. So you’ll probably have to refine him somewhat. 😉

Here’s an idea, though… but it would hinge on him not having too frequent a presence in the scripted story. Since he’s from another generation, how about having him be the one and only hand-animated 2D character? 🙂

My vote’s on Gramps. Doesn’t have to be his real name; could just be what Ace refers to him as.
